A Jewish educator, social entrepreneur, and a tech savvy activist, Eran Yaacov Shafir is the Director of Sefaria in Israel. He has over 20 years of experience in leadership roles in the Israeli non-profit sector, including strategic planning and implementation, creating partnerships, content design and development in Israel, USA, and Canada. He trained as a facilitator for text-based Jewish learning at the Midrasha in Oranim and implemented his experience with pluralistic Batei Midrash, pre-army leadership programs, and communities across the country. He was a community emissary of the Jewish Agency in London and led an NGO for civic equality in Israel, focusing on ensuring social equality. He directed the International Relations Department for the Leo Baeck Education Center and was the Jewish Agency Regional Director in Canada, in a role focusing on offering creative opportunities to connect to Israel, where he developed a unique Israel engagement strategy approach. He is one of the founders and an active member of Eliav, a pluralistic community in the northern Negev, where he currently lives. He served as an IDF company commander captain and now serves as reserve duty major in an armored division. He is deeply committed to enhancing the collective Jewish story and working towards empowering every Jew with the right tools in order to create his/her own part of the story.
