Community Leadership Cohort

Offering Chicago lay leaders a new language and set of conceptual frameworks for understanding the relationship between Israel and World Jewry.

About the Cohort:

The Chicago Community Leadership Cohort aims to create a strong and vibrant connection between Israel and world Jewry and enable Chicago Jewish leaders to speak about Israel in thoughtful, nuanced ways with confidence and competence. The Shalom Hartman Institute’s work is founded on the belief that Jewish peoplehood is an essential feature of Judaism and that Jewish identity is enriched and strengthened when each community sees the other as an essential part of a larger whole. This moment is a paradigm-shift for North American Jews and Judaism, and how our Jewish leaders respond and guide their constituencies will have far reaching implications when it comes to vibrant Jewish life, identity, and community.

The cohort is an invitation-only learning opportunity that offers influential lay leaders a new language and set of conceptual frameworks for understanding the relationship between Israel and World Jewry, and provides a forum for participants to explore how these ideas might shape their leadership and be applied at their institutions, as well as the Jewish communal conversation more broadly.

Eligibility:

This opportunity is for leaders in the Chicago Jewish community who are invested in creating more thoughtful, ideas-driven discourse around the big questions facing our community. Ideal participants are eager to listen and engage with perspectives different from their own, interested/engaged in approaching issues through the lens of text and ideas, and are intellectually curious, excited to learn, and respectful to others.
