Faith and Religious Sincerity in Political Allyship

Sometimes one may feel challenged to share aspects of their own faith traditions that do not easily reconcile with people of other faiths.
Dr. Elana Stein Hain is the Rosh Beit Midrash and a senior research fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America, where she serves as lead faculty and consults on the content of lay and professional programs. A widely well-regarded thinker and teacher, Elana is passionate about bringing rabbinic thought into conversation with contemporary life. To this end, she hosts TEXTing, a bi-weekly podcast that considers issues relevant to Jewish life through the lens

In interfaith encounters, one may feel challenged to share aspects of their own faith traditions that do not easily reconcile with – and even openly conflict with – people holding other faiths. In this session, Elana Stein Hain considered a typology of responses to such experiences as exemplified by interactions depicted in the Talmud between rabbis and people of other religions.

This program was recorded during our interfaith symposium on Truth, Difference and Loyalty in February 2021.
