SPECIAL VIRTUAL SERIES FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
No background or prior knowledge required to attend!
The war between Israel and Hamas is the first major conflict in the region that today’s young people have ever known, and has led to complicated feelings about the relationship between Israel, America, and American Jews that are only compounded by the current social media environment.
Teens will join world-class faculty from the Shalom Hartman Institute to hear clear and concise explanations of this difficult moment, including the history of the conflict, the origins of the current crisis, and the realities of Israeli society today and tomorrow. We will ask hard questions, explore conflicting narratives, and address the most pressing issues facing young people today as we grapple with the new reality that confronts Israelis, Palestinians, and American Jews. No matter what your knowledge level or background, this series is for you!
The virtual series will take place over three sessions:
Session 1: Weds, May 15 – How Did We Get Here? A brief history of Israel and the conflict with Palestinians with Sara Labaton, Director of Teaching and Learning, Shalom Hartman Institute of North America
Session 2: Mon, May 20 – Where Are We Right Now? A survey of the current crisis including the internal visions within Israeli society with Masua Sagiv, Scholar in Residence, Shalom Hartman Institute of North America
Session 3: Weds, May 29 – Where Might We Go? A look ahead as to the possible futures for Israel and Palestine with Michael Koplow, Senior Research Fellow, Shalom Hartman Institute and Chief Policy Officer, Israel Policy Forum
