SHI North America Announces New Vice President Rabbi Marc Wolf

The Shalom Hartman Institute of North America welcomes Rabbi Marc Wolf as SHI NA Vice President

The Shalom Hartman Institute of North America is pleased to announce that effective April 8, Rabbi Marc Wolf will join the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America team as Vice President, with a focus on East Coast cities in the United States and Toronto. In this role, Rabbi Wolf will oversee SHI North America creative programmatic and strategic growth, relationship management, and development in several key cities.

Rabbi Wolf joins SHI North America after several major leadership roles at the Jewish Theological Seminary during the past 12 years, including his most recent position of Vice Chancellor and Director of Community Engagement. In this role, Rabbi Wolf was the lead curriculum writer for Chancellor Eisen’s Mitzvah Initiative; the author of numerous JTS Weekly Torah Commentaries; served as the rabbi of the JTS High Holiday services; and appeared in the New York Times and on NPR and CNN, writing and speaking on religion and philanthropy.

"As the Shalom Hartman Institute grieves the incredible loss of its founder, teacher, and friend Rabbi Professor David Hartman, we take a moment to relate the honor and excitement that we feel as Marc Wolf joins the ranks of the Institute’s senior leadership," said Dr. Yehuda Kurtzer, President of the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America. "Shalom Hartman Institute of North America has already positioned itself as a central convener of sophisticated dialogue and study, focusing on major Jewish questions for Jewish leaders. I feel confident that the skill set and expertise that Marc brings with him to his new role will help us to increase the breadth and depth of our activity on the East Coast of the United States, in Toronto, and nationwide."

"I am honored to be joining the Hartman Institute at this poignant moment," comments Rabbi Marc Wolf. "Although I had but a handful of opportunities to learn with Rabbi David Hartman (z’l), Hartman Torah animates my rabbinate as well as my life. The impact of the Hartman Institute and the vision for its continued expansion and growth in North America are inspiring for me personally and professionally. I look forward to working with the SHI NA team to extend the reach of the transformative thinking and teaching that have been essential in animating my Judaism."

The Shalom Hartman Institute of North America addresses the major challenges facing the Jewish people and elevates the quality of Jewish life in Israel and around the world. A leader in sophisticated, ideas-based Jewish education for community leaders and change agents, SHI is committed to the significance of Jewish ideas, the power of applied scholarship, and the conviction that great teaching contributes to the growth and continual revitalization of the Jewish people.
