During these High Holidays, our season of introspection, the State of Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in partnership with the Shalom Hartman Institute, invites you on a journey of reflection to explore some of the diverse meanings of Jerusalem and their implications for contemporary Jewish life and modern Israel. The 36-page reader, In the Gates of Jerusalem, is a carefully curated selection of traditional and modern sources about Jerusalem, introduced with personal reflections from President Reuven Rivlin and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The reunification of Jerusalem, whose fiftieth anniversary we recently commemorated, fullfilled the dream of millennia. Yet that dream has contained within it multiple meanings, opportunities, challenges and responsibilities.
