Hartman Institute Names Rabbinic Advisory Board

18 influential rabbis from Institute rabbinic programs will provide wisdom and input

Shalom Hartman Institute of North America is pleased to introduce its 2013-2015 Rabbinic Advisory Board. Nineteen influential rabbis, who have participated in Hartman Institute rabbinic programs for many years, will provide their wisdom and input as SHI North America continues to expand its rabbinic and synagogue-related initiatives .

Rabbi Lauren Berkun , Director of Rabbinic and Synagogue Programs and a graduate of the second cohort of the Institute’s Rabbinic Leadership Initiative (RLI) , said, “I am thrilled that such a diverse and talented group of Hartman rabbis have accepted our invitation to join the Advisory Board. These alumni of our rabbinic programs have experienced the transformative power of study at the Hartman Institute, and are eager to share their insights and creative ideas as we continue to grow and expand.”
The Advisory Board will convene quarterly to review the array of programs and resources that the Hartman Institute develops for rabbis and their communities. These include rabbinic study conferences and retreats, educational webinars, local rabbinic Beit Midrash programs, and the on-going development of intellectual resources to enhance rabbinic teaching, preaching and leadership. The Rabbinic Advisory Board will also give valuable advice on the many educational and curricular resources that the Hartman Institute is creating for synagogue and community lay leadership education.
For several years, the Hartman Video Lecture Series program has enabled hundreds of rabbis to offer timely and sophisticated seminars on pressing issues facing North American Jewry today. Titles include Leadership in Crisis , Engaging Israel: Foundations for a New Relationship , and Jewish Peoplehood , with a second volume of Engaging Israel – entitled iEngage 2.0: Tribes of Israel – and a new series called Dilemmas of Faith debuting this fall. The Rabbinic Advisory Board will help shape the vision for these and future educational resources which have the power to transform Jewish life in congregations across North America.
