Presented as part of the 2021 Trans Jews are Here Convening which celebrated and explored the intersection of transgender identity and Jewish life.
Dr. David Zvi Kalman is a research fellow in the Shalom Hartman Institute’s Kogod Research Center. He is a scholar, writer, and entrepreneur working at the intersection of technology, religion, and art. In addition to his work at the Shalom Hartman Institute, he has held research and consulting roles at Sinai and Synapses and the Sapir Institute. He is the owner of Print-O-Craft Press, an independent publishing house that has released books including Jessica Deutsch’s

Some Torah is designed to be eternally relevant. Other Torah just tries to speak to what happened yesterday. But Torah built for posterity sometimes fades, while Torah of the moment sometimes lasts forever. This class, given by an ally primarily for other allies, talks about how this paradigm helps us understand the project of Trans Torah.
