The Past and Future of the Diaspora

Most Jews seem to agree that there is a Jewish Diaspora… but what is it? Is it about geographical location (outside of Israel), is it exile mandated by God, or is it an existential feeling of being an outsider? Is it a characteristic of individuals or the Jewish people as a whole? Is it something to mourn or to celebrate? Should we try to end it or perpetuate it?

In this session, Alexander Kaye looks at many different Jewish attitudes toward Diaspora, historically and in the present moment, and encourages us to ask ourselves how we want to think about the Diaspora going forward.
