“Since the tragedies of Oct. 7, many of us move through our days with despair, concern, increased anxiety and frustration as we grapple with the implications of the moment. At the same time, we have an obligation to imagine a brighter Jewish future in North America and in Israel.

Holding both of these realities simultaneously is not easy, but The Shalom Hartman Institute was uniquely poised to host hundreds of learners and leaders at its Jerusalem campus this summer to help them to reflect upon the challenges of the moment while also pushing them to consider their role in bringing about change.

Hartman brings thought leaders together at its campus in Jerusalem every summer, but this summer was different. Hundreds of community lay leaders, philanthropists, college students, rabbis, educators, and professionals from across North American flocked to Hartman for the opportunity to take time out of their busy lives to stop and think. The experience of the last nine months requires the Jewish world to reimagine what we thought we knew and to consider the needs of our communities going forward.”
