North American Jewish Identity 

Led by Claire E. Sufrin, the North American Jewish Identity Seminar explored major questions about Jewish identity, status, and affiliation such as: 

• How is Jewish identity formed, among people born Jews and those who convert? 
• How should Jewish communities accommodate non-Jewish members?
• What does belonging to the Jewish peoplehood entail in 21st century North America? 

This seminar, which met from September 2023 through June 2025, explored a variety of concepts including status, affiliation, belonging, authenticity, and character formation as lenses for understanding Jewish identity.
