Foundations for a Thoughtful Judaism, a curricular project led by Elana Stein Hain, offers a sophisticated yet accessible introduction to philosophical ideas in the areas of Jewish peoplehood, practice, faith and ethics, on the basis of Hartman Torah from the last four decades.
We want even beginners to have access to deep Jewish thought. This curricular project grows out of an interest in sharing the ideas that have been taught to at the Machon to rabbis for decades with people who are new to Jewish tradition. This includes people in interfaith relationships, people who are exploring their own Judaism for the first time, or people who are working towards conversion. This is not a how-to Judaism 101 course, but instead can serve as a complement to such a course for those who wish to grapple with the philosophical questions at the heart of Jewish tradition.
