Educational Impact Initiative for Jewish Day Schools

A Wellspring educational initiative from the Shalom Hartman Institute

To help day schools meet the challenges of this moment, we will convene cohorts of educational teams from different day schools for an 18-month period. These cohorts will have the opportunity to learn from leading Hartman scholars and engage with important texts and the big ideas that are shaping Israel and the Jewish people.

Within the cohort, each school will identify their desired goals and work with Hartman faculty and staff to create relevant and thoughtful educational change.

Areas of focus may include:

  • A values-based educational approach to Israel Education
  • Articulating a renewed vision for a 21st century Zionism and its place in North American Jewish life
  • High level discussions about the nature and future of the North American Jewish community
  • Developing and supporting a robust form of pluralism within institutions and communities (and the potential limits to pluralism)
  • A contemporary approach to Jewish ritual
  • Hartman’s approach to courageous leadership; empowering communities and institutions to support leaders navigating and making challenging decisions

Program details:

  • 18-month cohort
  • 4 in-person intensives (two in Israel; two in the New York area)
  • Opportunities for workshopping and application of Hartman content
  • 10 hours of individualized consulting with Hartman faculty and staff
  • Option of direct work with stakeholder groups, such as board of directors, parents, etc.
