Shirley Idelson is a Reform rabbi, historian and journalist whohas spent most of her career at the intersection of Judaism andhigher education, with a focus on training the next generationof Jewish leaders. She is currently completing a book on Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, the Jewish Institute of Religion, and the reinvention of American liberal Judaism, and serves as Senior Advisor at the Harold Grinspoon Foundation and Visiting Rabbi at Dartmouth College.

Idelson holds a Ph.D. in History from the CUNY Graduate Center as well as an M.S. in Journalism fromColumbia University, and was formerly Dean of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion’s New York campus. She is also a proud board member of Moving Traditions, which helps teens thrive and connect to Judaism in meaningful ways attuned to issues of gender and feminism.
