Nitzan Caspi Shiloni is a Research Fellow in the Kogod Research Center at the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem and a graduate of the Maskilot program at the Institute. She is a doctoral student and a Presidential Fellow in the Gender Studies Program at Bar-Ilan University. 

Her interdisciplinary research integrates Jewish Law (Halakha) with gender studies theories, focusing on the rhetoric of Rabbinical Court rulings and the ways in which they construct gender. Her research, which examined narratives of domestic violence in Rabbinical Court decisions, was the recipient of several awards. 

In addition, Nitzan is an attorney who spent many years representing women denied a divorce (Mesuravot Get) in the Rabbinical Courts. She initiated the establishment of a private court for the release of Agunot (chained women) and works to advance women’s rights within the context of religion and state. She is a regular contributor of op-eds on these issues and co-hosts the podcast Visiting the Rabbinate (Mevakrot BaRabbanut). 

She holds an LL.B. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, an LL.M. (cum laude), and an M.A. in Gender Studies from Bar-Ilan University. 

Nitzan is married to Moshe and is the mother of four children.
