Created Equal Educators Cohort

Miriam-Simma Walfish is a doctoral candidate at Harvard University and a rabbi. Her dissertation, “Rabbis, Parents, and the Dynamics of Cultural Transmission” looks both at the role the rabbis see parents playing in their children’s education as well as at the relationship tensions that transmission of culture can produce. Miriam-Simma is fascinated by the process of formation of the Babylon Talmud and by the insights into cultural history in the realms of family, gender, and body that can be gleaned by attending to this process. Her article, “Upending the Curse of Eve: Reframing Maternal Breastfeeding in BT Ketubot,” was published in the 2017 volume Mothers in the Jewish Cultural Imagination. She is excited to form new relationships with others thinking through questions of gender in the Jewish world.
