Rabbi Jesse Paikin is the Director of Rabbanut North America at the Shalom Hartman Institute, where he leads the educational design and strategy for Hartman’s visionary training program to develop morally courageous rabbis to serve the North American Jewish community.

Previously he served as Executive Director of Base – a national movement of pluralistic, rabbinic-led communities. In this role, he led the strategic growth of the program while building the field of entrepreneurial rabbis serving young adults.

Jesse holds a Masters in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University, an MA in Hebrew Literature and Rabbinic ordination from Hebrew Union College, and a Bachelors in Philosophy from York University. His research has focused on the cognitive-developmental processes by which rabbis develop expertise in-service. Previously, he served as Rabbi at Sixth & I Historic Synagogue in Washington, DC, and as a Research Fellow with M2: the Institute for Experiential Jewish Education. He has held fellowships from the Mandel Institute for Nonprofit Leadership and the Jewish Emergent Network.

Jesse is a fourteenth-generation Canadian and has called Toronto, Montreal, New York, Washington DC, and Jerusalem home. He lives in Toronto with his wife and daughter.
