Rabbi David Steinhardt is Senior Faculty and Engagement Officer at the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America. He served for 31 years as  a pulpit rabbi at B’nai Torah Congregation in Boca Raton and 12 years in northeastern Ohio. At B’nai Torah, he led significant growth to become the largest Conservative congregation in Southeastern United States.

David was ordained from the Jewish Theological Seminary in 1982, where he also received an MA in Hebrew Literature and became a Hartman Rabbinic Fellow in 2007. He often states that his experiences learning at the Institute helped shape his rabbinate and world view.

As a rabbi he focused on creating spirited and meaningful worship, growing diverse educational programs and schools, and placing learning at the core of his agenda. He also made an impact in the larger communities  he served, devoting great efforts to interfaith relations as well as engagement with populations in need.

David has served on local Federation boards, on the Rabbinic Cabinet of Israel Bonds, the Chancellor’s Cabinet of the Jewish Theological Seminary, and the Israel Tennis and Educational Centers. He is a past president of the Palm Beach County Board of Rabbis and a past chair of the Jewish Federation’s Community Relations Counsel and Israel Overseas Committee.

David and his wife, Dr. Tobi Richman Steinhardt are loving parents to five married children and seven grandchildren.
