David Kurzmann is the Managing Director of Regional Funder Engagement and Senior Development Officer at the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America. David has spent the past decade in ascending professional roles in the Detroit Jewish community. Most recently, he served as Senior Director of Community Affairs at the Jewish Federation of Detroit, overseeing community, government, and media relations, as well as board governance and crisis management. An accomplished organizational leader and strategic communicator, David has worked closely with major donors, top lay leaders, community executives, and policymakers to advance mission-driven priorities related to the well-being of the Jewish people and Israel.

Prior to joining Federation, David was Executive Director of JCRC/AJC, an innovative venture serving Jewish Detroit that united the local Jewish Community Relations Council with the global advocacy resources of the American Jewish Committee. Earlier in his career, David worked in Chicago at the Anti-Defamation League’s Midwest Office and was a member of the founding team of the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center.
