Amanda Pogany is Head of School at Luria Academy of Brooklyn. Under her leadership, the school transformed from an exciting idea with 90 students in 2012 to a thriving institution today with over 300 students preschool through 8th grade. Luria models progressive education, inclusive classrooms, and Hebrew immersion for the day school world. Over the last two decades, she has worked in the field of Jewish education as a teacher, consultant, mentor and coach for the Hadar Institute, the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies, the Covenant Foundation, and others. In 2005, she co-founded Altshul, an independent egalitarian minyan in Brooklyn. She is an alumna of the Wexner Field Fellowship and the 2020 recipient of the Covenant Award. Over the last two years, she has served as the Jewish educational consultant for 3 episodes of Sesame Street. Amanda is a graduate of the Pardes Educators Program, has a Masters in Jewish Education from Hebrew University and a BA from Barnard College. She lives in Crown Heights with her husband Aaron Bisman and their three children.
