“Poetry is internalized linguaphobia”
you said, citing exit polls.
I said, “close reading can’t find
the shy rhyme or hidden ballad
of the self.
“You said, “there’s no evidence
to support your declaration.”
I said, “lyric is its own source.”
You said, “poets are liars.”
I said, “I’d rather be a deplorable verse
than a phony sentence.”
You said, “false choice.”
I said, “it’s too soon for summary.”
You said, “it’s too late.”
