iEngage – Now the e-Book

“Speaking iEngage,” a compilation of more than 50 articles and essays by members of the iEngage Project team from the last five years, is now available as an e-book, the first from the project and the Shalom Hartman Institute

Speaking iEngage, a compilation of more than 50 articles and essays by members of the iEngage Project team from the last five years, has been published as an e-book, the first from the project and the Shalom Hartman Institute.

Speaking iEngage comprises articles by Donniel Hartman, Tal Becker, Yossi Klein Halevi, Yehuda Kurtzer, Suzanne Last Stone, Marcie Lenk, Rachel Sabath Beit-Halachmi, and Gil Troy. The articles are organized along the nine themes of the first iEngage Video Lecture Series, Engaging Israel: Foundations for a New Relationship,” including From Crisis to Covenant, Religion and Peoplehood, Sovereignty and Identity, Power and Powerlessness, War and Occupation, Morality on the Battlefield, Jewish and Democratic State, Religious Pluralism and Human Rights, and Values Nation.

These impactful and timely articles, selected from among more than 100 published by iEngage Project team members, best represent the iEngage Project themes and topics. Alan D. Abbey, SHI Director of Media and Internet Services, who compiled the collection with input from iEngage team members, particularly Donniel Hartman, and Laura Gilinski , Chief Public Relations and Development Officer, said that he was pleased to find that few of the iEngage essays were outdated, even in the fast-moving world of today’s current Middle East.

“By declining to participate in the shouting match of the day, and by placing Jewish values at the forefront of their responses, iEngage Project team members have created content of lasting value, even as their articles were written in reaction to situations that may now have changed,” Abbey said.

Of particular interest are several articles by Donniel Hartman published before the iEngage Project was inaugurated in 2010. In those articles, Donniel can be seen working out the philosophy, objectives, and approach of iEngage. The articles span five years, from late in 2008, at the beginning of Pillar of Defense, Israel’s incursion into Gaza, through the summer of 2013.

The book is now available as a Kindle download from Amazon.com. For more information on Speaking iEngage, contact Alan Abbey .
