Hartman Teen Fellowship: Program Details

Cohort V of the Hartman Teen Fellowship runs August 2026-May 2027 and includes these five exciting components:

  • Community: Participants regularly say that this program is where they “find their people.” Within the larger Fellowship community (made up of around 380 high school students from across North America), Fellows are assigned to a shevet (home-group) of approximately 15 Fellows that anchor key components of their experience. These groups are led by madrichim/ot (facilitators) who are alumni of Hartman’s Hevruta Gap-Year and other Hartman college student programs.
  • Shabbatonim (Weekend Retreats): The Fellowship features two in-person, weekend programs (Friday-Sunday) with immersive Jewish living, learning, and community. Shabbatonim include learning facilitated by Hartman faculty, multiple options for Shabbat rituals and observance, student-led discussions, and fun! Shabbatonim are shomer Shabbat (Shabbat observant) and all food is certified kosher. The Hartman Teen Fellowship partners with the Hadar Institute to provide diverse and engaging opportunities for Fellows to engage in prayer and ritual at the Shabbaton and throughout the Fellowship. Next year’s Shabbaton dates are October 16-18, 2026, and May 21-23, 2027.
  • Virtual Trimester Classes: The three online trimesters (November/December, January/February, and March/April) feature a catalogue of classes led by Hartman and Hadar faculty that meet for one hour once a week for four weeks. Class topics include explorations of Jewish peoplehood, liberal Zionism, Jewish practice, Jewish ethics, and more. Fellows choose classes offered Sunday through Thursday at different times to accommodate participant schedules and time zones.
  • Virtual Beit Midrash (Learning) Sessions: Fellows gather as a community for virtual learning with leading Hartman Institute scholars during the program year. Fellows attend one Beit Midrash Session in the fall and one in the spring.

Eligibility & Cost:

  • Open to Jewish students who will be entering grades 10-12 in the 2026-2027 academic year who are excited to be part of a collaborative learning experience.
