Frequently Asked Questions

I have never made a gift to the Shalom Hartman Institute before. Will my gift count toward the match?

Yes! Any gift of up to $25,000 from a donor who has never given to SHI will be matched. 

I have been a donor to SHI in the past. Will my gift this year be matched?

Our anonymous donor will match the increased portion of your 2020 giving above the highest amount you gave in 2018 or 2019, up to $25,000:

• • • If you made a gift of $360 in 2019 and make a gift of $500 in 2020, $140 will be matched.
    • If you made a gift of $500 in 2019 and a gift of $500 in 2020, unfortunately your gift will not be matched.
    • If you made a gift of $500 in 2018, a gift of $360 in 2019, and a gift of $1,000 in 2020, $500 will be matched.
    • If your last gift was in 2017 or before, your full 2020 gift will be matched.

I’d like to pay my 2019 pledge now. Will it count toward the match?

No, unfortunately payments on pledges made prior to 2020 will not be matched. 

Can I make an in-kind donation toward the match?

No

Can I designate my gift?

To comply with the request of the donor, all gifts made as part of the matching campaign will be designated toward our educational programs in Israel, including the Beit Midrash for Israeli Rabbis, Be’eri Program for Pluralistic Jewish-Israeli Identity, Min HaBe’erot, and Hevruta Gap-Year Program.

Can I make my gift in honor/in memory of someone? 

Yes. Please fill out the appropriate fields on the donation form.
